FAQs + Learning Center

Arthritis in a dog’s leg or hip joints is a common problem. A dog hip brace or leg brace may offer the stability and support needed to help decrease the arthritic pain and inflammation that occurs when your pet is active. Braces can also help your pet stay mobile.

Arthritis in dogs can develop in all joints of their front or back legs, including elbow, wrist, ankle, knee, hips and shoulder. It’s important to visit your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

If your dog’s inflammation is due to inflammation in the front or rear legs, leg braces can help with the joint pain and loss of stability and mobility.

If your dog has trouble walking or standing, her hips may be the root of the instability. A dog hip brace may help stabilize the hips, reduce discomfort, and increase mobility. A hip brace for dogs provides support and warm compression to the joints and muscles in the hips and lower back. This eases pain and helps mobility.

Braces for Dogs that Can Help with Arthritis Pain

Our NeoAlly® non-rigid leg braces help dogs that suffer from limb weakness or injury due to arthritis or age. They’re highly recommended by veterinarians and provide the much-needed support to help your dog’s joint pain.

Our NeoAlly® Dog Hip Brace will help stabilize your dog’s hips. We work with veterinarians to develop the most comfortable and effective hip braces for dogs. Our design provides the support right at the hip area for the dog so the braces fit perfectly.

Leg and hip braces for dogs can treat arthritis, osteoarthritis, and dysplasia. It’s important to consult with your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis and make a treatment plan.

You should definitely walk your arthritic dog, but there are some things to consider to help keep your pup comfortable and safe. Here are 5 things to consider while walking your arthritic dog …

5 Things to Consider While Walking Your Dog with Arthritis

  1. Be sure to let your dog warm up. Start walking slowly, then walk at your dog’s pace.
  2. Walk for shorter periods of time. Take more short walks instead of fewer long walks.
  3. Pay attention to your dog and look for signs of discomfort.
  4. Keep your dog at a healthy weight.
  5. Consider using a mobility device such as a lift harness or sling … or a leg brace.

Dog Leg braces provide an excellent arthritis treatment option. They offer stability and support which help decrease pain and inflammation when your dog is active. Front and rear leg braces help dogs with the joint pain and loss of stability and mobility caused by arthritis.

Dog slings and lift harnesses are designed to support your dog and keep her comfortable without straining your neck, arms, shoulders or hips when you lift. They distribute your dog’s weight evenly so you aren’t carrying all their weight with one arm or shoulder.

Lift harnesses can help your arthritic dog go up the stairs or get into the car. They can also help your dog squat to relieve herself. Slings can also just simply offer extra support and lift while your dog is walking.

It’s important to consult with your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis and make a treatment plan.

A torn ACL is the most common injury in dogs. The injury requires rest, immobilization and often surgery for repair. A dog knee brace can offer therapeutic support and stabilization before and after surgery, but it’s also useful in cases when surgery is not necessary or feasible.

A Dog Knee Brace is a good way to help treat a torn ACL or CCL, sprains or strains of the canine knee, back leg limping, arthritis, or any injury where knee immobilization is needed. Immobilization of the knee and leg helps reduced pain and inflammation and provide support during healing. The brace also offers ideal post-operative support and stabilization.

What are the Benefits of Using a Dog Knee Brace for a Torn ACL?

Your dog can sustain a knee or ACL injury when playing in the yard or just landing incorrectly going down the stairs. This type of injury is painful and makes it difficult for your dog to move around. So, you want the best treatment plan to ensure a speedy recovery. A well-designed dog knee ACL brace will support the injury while it heals and keep your dog comfortable and mobile. It will also help reduce the risk of further injury.

4 Benefits of Using a Dog Knee Brace for a Torn ACL

  1. Increase Mobility

Dog ACL braces make it possible for your dog to continue walking on the injured leg. Your dog can continue going on walks or moving around the yard or home without feeling limited.

  1. Comfort

A dog knee brace will allow your pet to remain comfortable as she begins to heal. While wearing the brace, dogs can easily sleep and perform the same functions as they did prior to the injury. This makes it easy to wear for several weeks or months. Our NeoAlly® Knee Brace can be measured to fit the size of your dog to ensure it fits properly.

  1. Reduce the Risk of Further Injury

Unfortunately, many dogs can continue to injury their leg if they walk on it or don’t have the proper support. A brace will stabilize the limb so the leg can heal at a faster pace.

  1. Dog Knee ACL Brace Instead of Surgery?

In some cases (depending on age or health conditions), you may consider using an ACL brace instead of putting your dog through surgery. Leg braces can help your dog’s mobility if surgery is not an ideal option.

It’s important to consult with your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis and make a treatment plan.

If your older dog has weak back legs, she could be suffering from arthritis in the leg or hip joints. Dogs are prone to joint inflammation and pain as they age. A dog hip brace or a back leg brace for dogs may offer the stability and support needed to help decrease pain and inflammation when your pet is active.

Arthritis in dogs can develop in all joints of their front or back legs, including elbow, wrist, ankle, knee, hips and shoulder. It’s important you visit your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis.

Front and rear leg braces for dogs help your pet with the joint pain and loss of stability and mobility caused by arthritis. Leg, shoulder, and elbow braces for dogs are best to correct problems like limping, collapsing, excessive weight, and laxity. These braces for dogs can treat arthritis, osteoarthritis, and dysplasia.

Our NeoAlly® non-rigid leg braces help dogs that suffer from limb weakness or injury due to arthritis or age. They’re highly recommended by veterinarians and provide the much-needed support to help your dog’s joint pain.

It’s important to consult with your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis and make a treatment plan.

Depending on the severity and type of the injury, your dog may need to wear a leg brace for as little as 6 weeks to as much as 3 months. Your vet will be able to tell you how long your dog should wear a leg brace.

Generally, it will take 6 weeks for your dog’s sprained leg to heal. But knee injuries or a torn ACL (CCL) will take longer.

The biggest challenge may be getting your dog to slow down enough to allow the injury to heal. If your dog’s activity level is not decreased, there’s a risk of re-injury or a chronic injury that may require surgery down the line.

Neo Sports Lab has designed a variety of dog leg braces. We have non-rigid braces and braces with metal reinforcements to allow the appropriate level of support to help your dog’s injury heal.

It’s important to consult with your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis and make a treatment plan.

A dog’s ankle (hock or tarsus) is the most injury-prone part of dog’s body. If your dog has a swollen back leg, it’s likely a hock, ankle or Achilles’ injury. A high-quality dog ankle brace is crucial to help the injury heal and to keep your pet mobile, whether she needs surgery or not.

Dog ankle braces help pets who suffer from weak hind legs, sprained ankles, arthritis, age, or other conditions that affect mobility. They should be made of high-quality materials and soft padding.

About Our Ankle Braces for Dogs

Neo Sports Lab has developed two types of dog ankle braces to protect a dog’s back legs. The non-rigid and semi-rigid models provide different levels of support and are recommended by veterinarians.

Our NeoAlly® Dog Rear Leg Brace is made of durable non-rigid materials that are designed to stabilize your dog’s lower back leg joints and bones. Our signature design ensures the braces will not hinder movement, irritate the skin, or slide down your pet’s leg.

Our NeoAlly® Dog Rear Leg Brace with Metal Supports is made of durable semi-rigid materials that provide strong stabilization for your dog’s lower back leg joints and bones. Our signature design has removable metal strips that form a splint around your pet’s legs while not hindering movement or irritating skin.

It’s important to consult with your veterinarian to get a proper diagnosis and make a treatment plan.

      1. DawnTime

These helped our Bichon. Gainsome back stability with his knee went out.

      2. Amy Dignan

My 8 year old dog hurt himself during the winter. Whenever we take long walks, he limps when we get home. The limping has decreased since I purchase these. I out them on whenever we go for walks, to the dog park, etc.

      3. Kylie

Needed support for senior dog to be able to get up and down on her on her own

      4. Denise Hawley

      5. JY

Hard to stay on big dogWasn’t what we thoughtWe made it work

      7. Amazon Customer

You have good product. But you must reinforce where the Velcro is sown on. The material stretches and tears where Velcro is attached to the sleeve.

      8. Anthony

These work better than expected. They are easy to put on and take off; and they stay in place. They are very comfortable for my dog as she doesn’t seem to notice they are on her while she’s playing, and is reluctant for me to take them off of her at night. They are highly reflective at night, and everyone comments on the “cute socks” my dog is wearing. They are also easy to wash (hand dry). They provide excellent support for my dog’s arthritic joints and provide her much needed stability so she can continue to be a happy and active life.

      9. Bruce from NC

The product worked great when new. I was initially impressed for first week. Dog had hurt his leg and product helped initially by giving support and confidence. However, the velcro is of poor quality and wore out very quickly. Also, I would suggest that product is remove from dog when left unattended. Unfortunately, I could only recommend for short time use because of my experience. Given the price of ~$30 I guess you should not expect much. I would suggest looking at other product unless you only need something for limited short time use. If the velcro straps were improved in quality and wrapped around the leg — it might improve the product greatly.

      10. Cynthia M. Thompson

These are working well for my dog. I got both the metal strap kind and the soft ones. Both are great!

      11. Y. Phillips

Very happy with the product. My dog suffers from arthritis. Is the brace assist him in walking and in standing up.

      12. Andrew L. Andrew L.

After my mini Aussie blew out his knee, we decided to try these. They are great. He can’t run and jump like he used to, but these give him support and confidence! And he doesn’t mind —hardly seems to notice! —them on his legs.

      13. S. Hill

Pretty good, as described. Arrived on time. Fits my big boy just fine, and he doesn’t chew on it.

      14. Rossie DRossie D

A Best Route to go For Mobility, Strength, and Pain releaseYou must get the right size for this to work effectively. My dog was using his un-afflicted back leg so much that it wore his mobility into affliction…. I first used the brace on the overworked side to relieve its overuse and then, I used them both. His mobility changed drastically. After some time passed his pain was gone, and his walking and actual jog returned to a normal pace for him.I noticed pain in his front and looked into their front brace, but after using EXTENDPETS his front has no more pain. BONEO is also a great re-builder of bone loss, cartilage and etc. loss. It rebuilds and strengthens. It does take time.Happy is now 14 1/2 and jogs and sometimes goes into a full run whenever something interest him. He still walks to dogs on his collar through the streets of our city off leash as a retired service animal and his strength seldom gets him down even on long walks and field runs.Happy, on the right, is the lab/husky holding the little ones to the left

      15. cooker

We adopted Daisy two years ago at age 10 and she had two rear ligament tears that the vet did not recommend trying to repair because of her age. She is now 12 and this winter has been hard on her. These braces have worked beautifully to help her to take short walks and to get to the groomer and vet. She is an 80# half lab half german wirehair and the size large was perfect. Don’t hesitate to get these, they definitely help. She leaves them in place and sits still for application and removal, maybe because she knows they help!

      16. Sonia

They were a tad big for my dog. I ordered xsmall. My dog is REALLY small. But I am able to adjust them for a better fit. They seem to be made really well.

      17. Amazon Customer

These work great for my 9 1/2 year old Sheltie. She walks better and it looks like she feels more stable moving around. Glad I got them

      18. Danny

        It worked great

      19. ame

My pit had ACL surgery. I am so afraid it will happen on the other side. So I bought these and I am very happy with them. She seems to walk better with them

      20. Wp

My dogs were playing and one accidentally trampled the other, leaving her to fall on her hind leg weird. She had a limp afterwards. I figured it was just a sprain, so I ordered these and wrapped her hock for a couple weeks and she was good to go. Be sure to take it off every night and give your dog a little time to try walking without it every day. If you don’t start seeing improvement after a couple days, go to the vet!!!

      21. Sonne

These braces are working great for our 12.5 year old German Shepherd who has severe rear leg problems. He is on medication and having these braces in addition is a great help to our big puppy. This might not work for every dog but they work very well for our pup.

      22. kiminpa

Bought these for an elderly pitty who tore her ACL. She’s almost back to her normal gait in a month. I did have to return for sizing. Ended up buying a small after the medium kept sliding down over her “ankles”. She walks better after only a few weeks and have been able to start her on controlled walks without a limp. Just what we needed, thank you.

      23. Amazon Customer

We had a 10 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback with a probable torn ACL. The vet gave us two options, surgery ($7000.00 with no guarantee) or medical management. We chose option 2. With proper pain management, rest, and these braces she barely limps. We are currently at 12 weeks of use. The braces are easy to use, sized as listed, and are durable. She doesn’t mind the braces being on and they stay put. Good value.

      24. Elizabeth

One of the legs too big for the product below the knee and we measured according to the instructions….otherwise, we were happy.

      25. Stacey Hassman

It has helped my girl so much she sprained her pulled a muscle and they work amazing so worth it thank you

      26. Michael L.

The product is a quality product. The problem with it has nothing to do with the braces but trying to get them onmy dog correctly. She is almost 14 and her back legs are weak. I hope I can get them on her so we can continueto take our morning walks. She never has liked anything new so this will be a challenge.

      27. BeachGirl

I bought this after my dog was diagnosed with a torn ACL to hopefully help him avoid having surgery and go through the ordeal of the long recovery that can be traumatic. He was not crazy about wearing this at first, however, after a few days of getting him used to it, he grew to really adapt. We primarily keep it on him all day until bedtime. He is walking perfectly on his injured leg. He went from limping most of the time to hardly ever and I am so astonished to see this result in such a short period of time. We only use the brace for the one leg that is injured and so far has done a great job at supporting his leg allowing him to be playful and as active as he likes.

      28. SBC

The media could not be loaded.

My senior dog is having problems with her rear legs during our morning, afternoon and evening walks, wearing her middle nails down on the sidewalk and generally walking very slow. After purchasing these leg braces she feels confident on our walks, even running is again increasing her capacity to enjoy our daily outings! They are easy to put on, she is excited and stands so good for me to do this. Just make sure they are fitted to your dog as the web site insructs, NeoAlly logo on the outside and that they are snug.

        Support for dogs rear legs

      30. Ree

I had to return once for a smaller size, but so glad I did because these have made all the difference in my 11 year old Coydog. Would definitely recommend.

      31. Lily Cool

the product looks great and seems to be made out of good material but unfortunately it would not stay up in my dog’s legs no matter how tight I made them. she didn’t make it a few yards before they slid all the way down.

      32. Lee

        Brilliant

      33. Amazon Customer

We use these to go over bandages we place on our Great Dane from licking. She can chew through the medical wrap but leaves these alone. As with anything with Velcro after numerous washes stuff sticks to the Velcro!

      34. Anita D

        Poodle with bad knees

      35. Kindle Customer

Great product. Ordered a medium for my Rottweilers arthritis and fits good but just a little snug due to swelling. As the swelling is coming down it’s fitting really well.

      36. Cheryl Reiter

Update: I feel so foolish! I watched the video and read the instructions, but I was still putting the braces on backwards. My dog is using her leg much more since she’s been wearing the braces.Original post: I really like the look and feel of the braces; they look like they will be comfortable on my dog. However, they don’t have the holes by the hocks. There is basting in that area but I’m hesitant to cut it as the fabric might ravel. I emailed the company but have not received a response.

      37. Amazon Customer

this is the hardest place I’ve ever tried to return a product to ..I had NO return address, NO instructions on returning and NO phone number too call for help, NO receipt When I finally called Amazon, they couldn,t help me either. they told me to throw away the product or give it to someone. I still have this but don,t know how to return it. It is a great product, does it’s job and is much better that surgery.I showed it to my vet and he was very impressed. said he was going to invest in a few for his animal hospital.

      38. M S J

This is the second pair of these that we’ve ordered. They don’t wear out, but the Velcro does become less and less adherent. Our little dog knows that the braces are part of her morning routine and walk, so she waits patiently while they’re put on. They help her get in her morning walk on back legs that are somewhat unstable.

      39. Libby Einterz

My poor elderly beagle is nearly 20 years old and recently developed debilitating arthritis. Her joints are swollen, especially in her rear legs. She could barely hobble a few steps and sometimes couldn’t even put any weight on her rear leg. I’ve tried supplements and vitamins, which help her energy and awareness, but she had very limited mobility. These braces are amazing! After wearing them for only a few minutes, she was ambling around the house with very few problems in an elderly version of the zoomies! It’s been wonderful to see her above without so much pain. She is 12 lbs and I bought the XS. They are a little snug around the swollen joints, but otherwise seem to fit perfectly. They don’t slip or come off, and she doesn’t seem to mind wearing them.

      40. DarleenM

Braces fit well-I measured my dog just as recommended . There are no supports in these braces only the fabric supports the legs . Not sure if they are effective yet as she has arthritis and legs and hips are stiff. I just thought I’d try them for a bit of support.

      41. Cheryl C. Daniel

Easy to put on the dog. He didn’t try to take them off. Obvious support when he gets up.

      42. Linda G. Mack

I wasn’t sure if my dog would take to these, they went on very easily and he had absolutely no problem with me putting them on him. He did a little strange walk the first five minutes and then he got acclimated very easily. We went for a 2 mile walk this morning and he seems very happy and pleased with them, no problems! I am looking forward to getting him active and happy again!

      43. The Otter One

Yes the sizing is key. We ended up returning, as they just didn’t work for our BFF. Definitely worth a try though!

      44. Amazon Customer

I only gave 3 stars because I bought them for my cat. My cat was able to remove the braces right away.

      45. Scarlet Crapser

        Very good

      46. D. Spencer

Our older dog pulled a muscle and these helped him for 2 days during his recovery. It was a little challenging to put on and off, as they are not meant for 24/7 use, but it allowed him to feel confident enough to do short walks during recovery.

      47. Amazon Customer

As noted in the description, I purchased for my dog and his ACL tear/ recovery. My vet couldn’t believe that it was listed as possible to help him with that and explained what a waste it was for ACL support. It also gave my dog (I measured for size with a measuring tape before ordering) large sores on the back of his legs from both braces.

      48. Christopher Shark

I like everything about the product. Quality. Thickness. Ease of use. Effectiveness. Thank you.

      49. Tanya N.

Really doesn’t stay on and the straps need to be longer for thicker upper leg area.Def not recommended for French Bulldog. Had to return. Measurements were just off.

      50. Karen Bush

I had to play with them a minute the first time but after that we were good to go. Corki doesn’t mind them being on. I read other reviews about getting hot spots from them….well, only if you leave them on forever. It clearly says not to have them on more than a couple of hours. We do our 2 miles walk then they come off. I have rinsed them out and let them dry with no issues. Did not give 5 stars because I worry about how long the Velcro will last. Other than that, I like them Would buy again if price dropped.

      51. Yesenia M.

I think it fixed my dogs leg! I got a teacup chihuahua got a size XS. He wore it for a week only and stopped limping! Of course we took it off at nighttime/overnight.

      52. Cuzer

The product is affordable and easy to put on.

      53. Kim GoffKim Goff

My little “chug” doesn’t love this, but he feels better wearing it. He tore his acl and we needed to minimize his use of the injured leg. I bought the XS as he is only 12 lbs. I did have to cut off the bottom section by half to fit his leg. I also lightly wrapped the leg with self adhesive tape under the leg brace above and below the ankle as it just slipped off. I had to wrap the leg above and below the ankle to secure the leg brace, as is seen with the sky blue wrap.

I was pleasantly surprised to find how well these worked. We have an elderly golden retriever with generalized arthritis in all joints. We have pretty much exhausted all of our options to improve our dogs mobility. He can no longer walk up steps, or walk on floors without carpet. His back legs have slid under him many times. So we really didn’t expect that the braces would work. However when we put them on both rear legs it was obvious right away that they were indeed helping him. He was walking at a faster pace and his confidence in his ability to walk was obvious. He is no longer hesitating before crossing thresholds or surfaces that normally he would be afraid to step on. We are thrilled.

I have a 63lb chocolate lab mix. I bought the XL, but it was too big for him (even tightening the velco). I’m keeping it just in case he needs it again later, but I should have gotten the L instead.

Good product even though I bought the wrong size. Worked well for the time needed for my dog’s leg to heal.

Works as intended and my lab likes it too.

My active 14-year-old heeler mix developed achilles tendonitis with swelling over her hock and limping after hiking or sprinting on walks. With this brace, she is no longer limping after exercise and the swelling is decreased. These braces are well made and fit great without any sore spots or rubbing – she stands patiently for me put it on (something she doesn’t do for her harness…) and doesn’t seem to even notice that it’s there. I make sure I’ve placed it well and I fasten the two straps immediately above and below the hock snugly but not too tight, and fasten the two outer most straps with a little bit more wiggle room. I’m really happy with these braces – they are allowing my dog-thlete to keep going with that excited smile on her face!

Actually keeps my dog’s lower leg from twisting. He suffers from old surgery on his knee which is causing arthritis. The item is so easy to use.

Helped my older dog with arthritis and neuropathy have a bit more strength in hind legs. She seems comfortable in them all day when we are home and on short walks etc. wash fine on delicate in machine and air dry. Bought a second pair because affordable and seem to help.
